About Kendal

Kendal is the Auld Grey Town — limestone yards, a ruined castle on the hill, mint cake, and the classic eastern gateway to the Lakes. It is a proper shopping and cultural town (Abbot Hall, the Brewery Arts) rather than a village with a view.

The Kentmere and Longsleddale valleys start behind it; Windermere is a short train ride. Walkers often sleep here the night before the fells.
