Ulverston is a festival town on the Furness peninsula, with the Hoad Monument (a lighthouse-shaped memorial to Sir John Barrow) on the hill. Laurel and Hardy’s museum sits here — Stan Laurel was born in the town. It is lively, independent and slightly off the main Lakes script.
