Often called the Lake District’s highest waterfall, hidden in a dark gorge above Crummock Water.

How to get there

From Buttermere village, cross Scale Bridge and follow the Scale Force path (mapped public footpath). Allow 1½–2 hours there and back. The last section is boggy and the gorge is slippery. Not a family stroll.
